Douglas the Clown and Newton Stewart Fire Brigade were just some of the many attractions at this year’s Kirkcowan Primary School Summer Fete, which saw pupils, their families, and members of the local and extended community have fun in the sun at Kirkcowan Park.
The fete was held on Saturday 27th of May 2023. In addition to Douglas the Clown’s magic shows and plate spinning demonstrations, the Fire Brigade allowed children to try out their water hoses and have a mooch around their fire appliance. Local police officers were also at the fete, giving children an opportunity to sit in their police car and on a police motorbike! The D&G Blood Bikes were kind enough to attend with their team and bike, enabling everyone to learn more about their fabulous work. Local dance group, X-treme Performers, treated the crowds to a wonderful display of their routines with many of the girls being pupils from the school. There was also a 100ft inflatable obstacle course, face painting and a sports competition.
The Friends of Kirkcowan School Fundraising Group had sourced donations from local businesses as well as parents for an excellent raffle. Donations were kindly given by Avocet gift shop, S. Cronnie Butchers, Merrick Leisure Centre, Bladnoch Distillery, Brigend Pantry, The Crown, Carrs Billington Stranraer and Ola Wichowska.
A grant from Kirkcowan Community Development Trust enabled the fete’s organisers to pay for the inflatable, Douglas the Clown, the face painter, food stuffs and lucky dip prizes. An incredible total of £1572.70 was made with all costs covered.
Thanks to all who came and all who donated for your kind support.
